Choreographers and co-producers Lucy Rupert, Rebecca Carney, Caroline Niklas-Gordon
and Brian Solomon team up for “The Sneak”, an evening of sneak peeks at dances which form the kernel of larger works. A sleek, minimalist production by three of Toronto’s most accomplished indie artists with a fourth emerging artist.

Rebecca Carney offers two short works drawing on her vast experience with the extraordinarily inventive Circus Orange, including the thrilling dance section from Circus Orange’s spectacular “Jump Jet” which was featured at the EX in 2008. Five women in orange jumpsuits and helmets attack fighter pilot and military manouevres. Carney’s second work is the first episode of a new work focusing on the life of the Empress Sisi of Austria, a skeletal sculpting of emotion drawing on Carney’s experience in theatre and film.

Caroline Niklas-Gordon looks at the daily shifts of body and emotion with “form and erode” including live music from multi-instrumentalist Ronda Rindone.

Lucy Rupert collaborates with lauded Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Sarah Slean on a new solo, “small animal/the sneak” that draws on Rupert’s passionate expressivity, Slean’s lush orchestration for string quartet, and the power small voices in the cacophony of modern life.

The very talented dancer and emerging creator Brian Solomon rounds out the program with a fresh new work: "excerpt: le Sacre du Printemps" (The Rite of Spring), a twenty minute interpretation of the famous Stravinsky score, in itself a rite of passage for many choreographers. Brian Solomon choreographs on emerging dance artists Mariana Medellin-Meinke, Whitney Hewitt, Ceinwen Gobert, and himself.
